We brush our teeth twice a day as a routine, which is also a way of keeping our dental hygiene. However, you should know that to keep dental hygiene is much more than brushing your teeth every day. To prevent the dental problems, like bad breath, tooth decay, gum disease, tooth erosion, and even tooth sensitivity, there are some tips that you should pay attention to.
You might think that you are doing quite well in keeping dental hygiene, so you don’t have to get dental check-ups. However, regular check-up could help you find out the tooth decay in time, so to check up your dental health at least once a year should be kept in mind.
If it is possible, you should brush your teeth after each meal, so you should brush your teeth totally three times a day. If it’s not possible, brushing your teeth at least twice a day is a must-have.
Choose a better toothbrush. You might think that you brush your teeth daily in the right way. However, as a matter of fact, most of us are brushing our teeth in the wrong way. The bleeding gums and the tooth decay might be the result of brushing teeth in the wrong way. An electric toothbrush could help you better with brushing teeth more thoroughly.
Change your toothbrush regularly. It has been said that the toothbrush should be changed every 3 months. If your toothbrush is frayed, obviously, it’s time for you to have a new toothbrush anyway.
Aside from brushing my teeth, I would love to use dental floss after each meal. Many people haven’t got used to flossing. But there is food debris between your teeth. So, it seems that you have to try flossing from now on.
A healthy diet and enough water could help you with this. Saliva has many antibacterial compounds that are able to reduce the number of bacteria. Drinking enough water could stimulate the salivary glands. And a healthy diet is good for not only your health but also your oral hygiene.
Mouthwash is also a way to reduce the microbial load in your mouth and a part of the oral hygiene routine. And using mouthwash doesn’t mean that you could skip the brushing and flossing.
